PRESS RELEASE OF V.S.CHANDRALEKHA, STATE PRESIDENT OF JANATA PARTY CHENNAI ON 22.06.2005 DR.SWAMY BACK TEACHING AT HARVARD The Janata Party President Dr.Subramanian Swamy has again returned to teach economics at the world famous Harvard University. During the last six years, Dr.Swamy has taught at Harvard University every summer. He will return to India mid-August. Dr.Swamy will be teaching two courses: one on mathematical methods in economics and another on India-China comparative economic performance. He will hold a faculty position in the rank of full Professor. Dr.Swamy holds a Ph.D from Harvard, and has jointly authored research with two Nobel Laureats Paul A Samuelson and Simon Kuznets. He has been teaching at Harvard during various periods since 1963. Dr.Swamy has also been Professor of Economics at IIT, Delhi (1969-1991). (V.S.CHANDRALEKHA) STATEMENT OF DR.SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, PRESIDENT OF JANATA PARTY MADE IN CHENNAI ON JUNE 21, 2005 1. The bogus cases filed against the Kanchi Acharyas should open the eyes of all Hindus to how shallow, insufficient and one-sided is the commitment of minorities in India to the concept of secularism. Although the Supreme Court and Madras High Court has held that there is no prima facie evidence against the Acharyas, not one Muslim or Christian organization has raised a voice against the crude and crass treatment of the Acharyas by the Tamil Nadu police. Nor have they have criticized the foisting of Goonda and Narcotics cases falsely against innocent and reputed officials of the Mutt. Hindus must now stand alone to defend Hindu religion and institutions. Henceforth, minorities cannot claim any special protection under the law against the majority opinion. 2. The decision of the AP Government to reserve 5 percent of the government jobs for Muslims is against national interest and will be the seed planted for further partition of India much as separate electorates instituted by the British imperialists had done in 1919. Reservations in employment and education can never be agreed to since Muslims were the ruling class of India for more than 6 centuries. Moreover they have also got Pakistan to go to if they cannot compete with other Indians. Reservation is an antidote only for socially deprived or discriminated classes, and those classes are solely within Hindu society. 3. The visit of Congress Party President Ms.Sonia Gandhi to Vladmir town near St.Petersburg to see where her father Stefano Maino was kept as a prisoner of war for four years by the USSR confirms my charge made in a PIL in Delhi High Court that her father was a soldier in Hitler’s Nazi army during World War II. 4. However since the Nazis were the invading army in the Soviet Union and had committed enormous atrocities on the Russian people, hence it was a terrible breach of protocol and gross impropriety on part of Ms.Sonia Gandhi as a guest of Russia to visit the prison where her father was kept. Mr.Maino was not a freedom fighter but a cheap Italian mercenary in the German invading army. In the interest of Indo-Russian friendship the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh should express regret for this indiscretion on part of Ms.Sonia Gandhi. 5. According to a study of the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDC) the district of Sivaganga is the poorest district in the Tamilnadu state with a per capita income 37 percent below the state average. The district is falling further and further behind state average since 1984. Since 1984 is the year when P.Chidambaram entered the electoral field in the state and has been Union Minister off and on, this MIDC finding is a stark exposure of his lack of performance for his district. If he cannot look after his district, how can be bring growth in the national economy? I therefore demand the Prime Minister sack Chidambaram from the Finance Ministership in the interest of the country. He has already put the economy into reverse gear, and before he sends the economy into a depression he must be sent out. (SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY) 20.06.2005 PRESS RELEASE I totally condemn the Union Government’s decision to raise steeply the prices of petrol and diesel, and state that it will be wholly inflationary since the increased revenue from the price hike will be entirely spent on the increased government expenditure. No new investment or creation of durable assets is envisaged. The Government argument that this hike is to cover the increased cost of crude oil internationally. This is false. Since November 2004 has fluctuated without trend and never exceeded the peak of July 2004. Moreover, the retail cost at the pump of petrol is just Rs.12 per litre and the remaining Rs.34 per litre is only to finance the government budget. The UPA government has not only bankrupted the national economy, but it is suffering from bankruptcy of ideas. It is time people kicked out such an anti-people government that is bent on defrauding the public. (SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY) Statement of Dr. Subramanian Swamy, President of the Janata Party and former Union Minister, in Chennai on June 7, 2005. 1. After the Union Home Ministry categorical denunciation of the LTTE (Annual Report 2004-2005, paras 3.150-3), the Union Government’s recent capitulation in agreeing to LTTE participation in the Tsunami relief fund distribution is a shameful sell-out of India’s national interest. This betrayal by the Government was at the behest of UPA chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi, and is a second assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by devaluing his sacrifice. 2. This volte face raises questions about the integrity of Ms. Sonia Gandhi and about her loyalty to the memory of Rajiv Gandhi. Already she has besmirched it by aligning in Government with those who praise the LTTE for its opposition to IPKF and thus justify the assassination. 3. The Tamil Nadu Government has definitely slackened its vigilance against the LTTE in the State especially after the appointment of Alexander as DGP. The Ramanathapuram District Janata Party President Mr. Xavier has given me a report of the free movement of LTTE armed cadres in Rameshwaram since mid 2004. Moreover, officers of the State police ‘Q’ branch have sought assistance from me in compiling data on two leaders of Dalit outfits who while abroad have received illegal funds from the LTTE. R&AW & IB agents have informed me that several Tamil Nadu politicians have fixed deposit accounts in the so-called illegal and unauthorized ‘Eelam Bank’ in Vanni for the purpose of money laundering and hiding their ill-gotten wealth. Does the TN CM Ms. Jayalalitha not know all these facts? Of course she does. Hence, I have to withdraw my earlier appreciation of Ms. Jayalalitha’s then patriotic stand on LTTE. I have not changed. It is she who has somersaulted to please the LTTE’s chief patron in India, Ms. Sonia Gandhi by diluting the hunt for LTTE in Tamil Nadu. Ms.Jayalalitha wrote so many letters to the Centre. Why has she not written to demand a pre-emptive strike by the IAF on the LTTE airfield in the island? After all those small planes of the LTTE threaten only Chennai. 4. After the bogus cases foisted on the Kanchi Acharyas, there is in the State a general atmosphere of lawlessness. The LTTE is taking full advantage of it. 5. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has successfully set up and commissioned a plant to desalinate sea water in Kavaratti in Lakshadeep. This plan has begun supplying one lakh litres of drinking water per day. The whole project took just six months. The Tamil Nadu Government is sleeping over this project because companies who came to apply for the tender could not satisfy Ms. Sasikala’s greed for illegal commissions. 6. I shall be addressing public meetings organized by the Tamil Nadu Vishwa Hindu Parishad on 8th at Mayiladuthurai and on the 18th at Wallaja. (SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY)
