PRESS RELEASE
Dr.Subramanian Swamy call on the President of India
Janata Party president Dr.Subramanian Swamy, called on the President of India Dr.A.P.J.Kalam today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dr.Swamy apprised the President of the atmosphere of religious persecution in Tamil Nadu as symbolized by the false and bogus cases foisted on the Shankaracharyas of the Kanchi Mutt. Dr.Swamy also submitted a complaint in writing a copy of which is enclosed herewith.
Secretary to Dr.Swamy
September 29, 2005
Dr. Abdul Kalaam
President of India
Rashtrapati Bhavan
New Delhi-11001
Dear Mr. President:
As you know religious freedom is a constitutionally guaranteed fundamental right. It has also acquired a human right status internationally under the UN Charter. The United States Congress has also legislated the International Religious Freedom Act under which the US government is empowered to raise with foreign governments violations of religious freedom. The US Consul General in Chennai two years ago under this Act had even met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalitha along with Christian and Muslim organisations' representatives to demand the withdrawal of the so-called anti-conversion Act passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly earlier. The Chief Minister soon after this meeting with the US Consul General, meekly complied under this international pressure, and had the Act withdrawn.
The foisting of bogus and fabricated cases against the Kanchi Mutt Shankaracharyas by the Tamil Nadu is also a gross violation of the fundamental right of religion. I cannot believe that Ms. Jayalalitha, whose high native intelligence I can personally certify to as a Professor of long standing in an internationally reputed university, can have applied her mind and permitted the Tamil Nadu police to file such a set of ridiculously untenable cases against such venerated souls as the Shankaracharyas. Her decision to do so has obviously therefore been foisted on direction from forces which have the capacity to embarass, threaten, or to coerce her to do what she otherwise would not have done left to herself. That she entrusted the investigation and prosecution of the case to the rogue elements of the Tamil Nadu police who themselves were under prosecution under several sections of the IPC adds to this belief that Ms.Jayalalitha is not her own person in this matter. Hence your intervention becomes necessary.
That the main case of murder against the Shankaracharyas is untenable and devoid of prima facie basis emerges from the judicially restrained comments of the Supreme Court and Madras High Court while granting bail to the Acharyas. In the court records {(2005) 2 Supreme Court Cases 13, on page 20 para 12}, the Chief Justice and his two brother Judges have held that the case has "no worthwhile prima facie evidence.." and [para 10] that the alleged confessions of other accused persons implicating the Acharyas “have very little evidentiary value” . Left to herself, and faced with judgement of the Supreme Court, I am inclined to believe that the Chief Minister would have ordered the withdrawal of these cases which cases are tantamount to paganism, barbarism and crass religious persecution.
The utter and deafening silence of the Christian and Muslim organisations in the face of this atrocity to revered and hoary institution of Hinduism is also shocking, and has discredited secularism as a one-way obligation of Hindus. The non-chalance of the Congress Party to this apparent religious persecution, despite the AIADMK being their electoral opponent is even more intriguiging. That the ruling UPA government is dominated by a foreign-born devout Catholic who patronises fraud Christian "missionaries" from abroad like Benny Hinn and lawfully declared undesirable persons such as Mr. Ron Watts, makes Hindus who constitute more than 80 percent of India, wonder whether their religion is under a invisible siege. If such a siege mentality begins to fester, communal harmony itself could be jeopardised in the long run.
Since you are not only the Rashtrapati, but a Tamilian and erudite scholar who by the sheer dedication to the nation has given us the missile technology shield to defend the nation, I request you to intervene to seek first a report from the Governor of Tamil Nadu, and then advise the Prime Minister to send a clear message under Article 365 and other constitutional clauses to the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw the case, as soon as possible, in any case before the coming Deepavali. If this is not possible, then I, as a devout and hurt Hindu, and a proud Indian shall have no alternative left but to internationalise the issue just as I did during the Emergency when democracy was snuffed out in the country.
Warm Regards
Yours Sincerely,
Subramanian Swamy
Points made by Dr.Subramanian Swamy, at the BJP meeting on action to be taken on the KGB expo'sure at Devar Hall, Habibulla Road, Chennai-17 on 27, September, 2005
When volume I of the Mitrokhin Archives [MA-II] converning KGB activities in US and Europe was published, the US, UK and French governments appointed inquiry commissions to determine the truth. They gound enough to prosecute several of their nationals.
1. But in India the Congress and Communists are instead abusing the authors. If they nothing to hide they too should welcome a full inquiry. Even on CIA allegations that they often make, they do not want an inquiry!!
2. MA-II has been substantiated by independent evidence. In 1991, President Yeltsin of Russia had appointed a Commission of Inquiry into KGB's nefarious activities. The report of the Commission containing a large number of documents was placed in Russian Parliament as Papers laid on the Table of the House. One the Commission members, Dr. Yevgenia Albats published in 1994 a book titled State within a State: KGB in Soviet Union in which KGB financing of Indian politicians, in particular Rajiv Gandhi's family, has been referred to with KGB file reference numbers.
3. I had raised the matter in Parliament in a special mention on March 23, 1992 to demand an inquiry. Later, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia through their spokesperson, Tatiana Samolis confirmed [reported in The Hindu on July 4, 1992] in parcitular that Rajiv Gandhi's family had received KGB funds a part of which was used for elections. This is a cognisable offence under Indian law, i.e., the IPC and RPA.
4. When the NDA came to power, I wrote to Jaswant Singh, who was Foreign Minister giving more details about the KGB financing of Congress and Sonia Gandhi. He is turn wrote to Russia, who asked that a RAW senior officer be sent to Moscow. Since I heard nothing further, I filed a PIL, which is now before the Supreme court to be heard on October 24".
5. Last year, the former Additional Director of India's Intelligence Bureau, Mr.M.K.Dhar published a book titled Open Secrets. On page 248-49 he confirms the Mitrokhin revelations.
6. In other words, the charge of KGB financing of Congress leaders and Communists parties is not a figment of Mitrokhin's imagination. There is sufficient prima facie basis in it to order a full fledged inquiry under a Supreme Court judge.
7. Queston now is: What has been the effect of KGB financing on India's national interest? Besides polluting our elections, KGB has used it's agents in India to alter India's policy to the detriment of Indian national interest.
8. The following are examples of such changes:
[a] Refusal to accept UNSC seat vacated by China in 1949. Nehru's advisers were recruited by KGB in UK.
[b] Referring Kashmir matter to UN on Edwina's advice.
[c] Not smashing West Pakistan in December 1971.
[d] Janata Party split in 1979 according to Palkhivala.
[e] Motivating Operation Bluestar on exaggerated reports from KGB. HKL Bhagat who led the anti-Sikh roits was a..
10. Although KGB has been wound up, what is the threat today? Foreign powers can still blackmail Indian leaders. Ms.Sonia Gandhi and her son have been beneficiaries of KGB funds for a long time. Now Putin is ex-KGB, and the Russian Ambassador in Delhi was KGB station chief in Delhi in the 1970s and 1980s. How can she say no to them? Even the US can blackmail her on threat of exposure. Hence in the national interest we must know the truth.
