PRESS RELEASE
1. The announcement of the AIADMK office that the party’s General Secretary Ms.Jayalalitha will “honour” the memory of India’s Freedom Fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar by garlanding his statue in Nandanam, Chennai on October 30th, is hypocritical.
When Muthuramalinga Thevar statue was, due to my efforts, installed in the Parliament House in 2002 , Ms.Jayalalitha had refused to attend the installation ceremony even though the President of India and then Prime Minister had attended the function.
2. Earlier when the rubber stamp O.Panneerselvam was Chief Minister briefly in 2001, I had obtained the Central Government’s permission to name Madurai airport as Muthuramalinga Thevar International Airport. But the Chief Minister, under orders of Ms.Jayalalitha, objected to it and got it blocked.
Hence after having twice dishonoured the memory of Thevar, Ms.Jayalalitha has now no right to garland his statue. The people of Tamil Nadu should demand an apology from Ms. Jayalalitha for her past betrayal of Thevar’s memory.

Press Release
I condemn the Union Government for failing to keep the date of October 20th set for executing the death sentence for Md.Afzal Guroo.
Since Afzal Guroo himself has not asked for mercy, and the Union Law Ministry has also well in time advised the Union Home Ministry that no legal basis exists for not carrying out the sentence, hence the Home Ministry had no patriotic or legal reason not to carry out the execution forth with.
I demand that the Prime Minister immediately intervene to ensure that Afzal to fulfill his commitment to his religion and given his due punishment. As a jihadi he should be happy that the Indian state is making it possible to go to paradise for killing so many people in front of the Parliament House on December 13, 2001.

PRESS RELEASE
The death of BSP founder-leader Mr. Kanshi Ram at a premature age of 72 years is a great loss for the nation. For me it is a personal loss too since I had known him well for over two decades. He had been supportive of my political moves such as when the Chandrashekhar government was installed in 1990, and in 1999 when the NDA Government was toppled by one vote. In 1989, the BSP and Janata Party had fought the elections in alliance as Parivartan Morcha. Kanshi Ram also had invited me several times to share the BSP platform with him in public meetings.
Mr.Kanshi Ram was a profound intellectual and a great organizer. He built the BSP single handedly from total obscurity in 1984 to a recognized national party with a reserved symbol in just ten years. He ranks next to Dr. Ambedkar in his impact in instilling self-esteem in the Scheduled Castes and in striving for their due place of equality in Hindu society. Hence heavy responsibility falls on Ms. Mayawati to nurture his legacy.
