The LTTE recent demonstration of its nascent air power must alert all democratic nations to the need for an immediate response to nip this capability in the bud. The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh must get a Resolution passed at the forthcoming SAARC Meeting for a pre-emptive massive strike at all LTTE installations in Sri Lanka. But, the implementation of the Resolution should be done only after the Sri Lanka Parliament adopts the Constitutional devolution of power sought by the Tamil people.
LTTE is a terrorist organization whose goals are harmful to India’s strategic interests. Their bonding and cooperation with ULFA, Naxalites, PWG, DK, and Maoists in Nepal make this terrorist organization anti-India in a sinister way. Hence India has a special responsibility.
The LTTE has also many ‘sleepers’ within the Indian establishment. The DMK, PMK, and MDMK are unashamed torch bearers of this terrorist organization. Even within the Congress Party, there are some prominent facilitators for the LTTE. The ‘loud’ silence of the Congress top leadership on the demand for extradition of Prabhakaran for facing trial in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination is a ominous indicator of this facilitation.
The LTTE had acquired the dis-assembled Czech made aircrafts (six in number) from the Russian mafia in exchange for narcotics trade at Palermo in Sicily province of Italy. From there these were sent to Singapore and then by sea to Jaffna peninsula. Chennai in Tamil Nadu also served as a source for supply of spare parts and air fuel. All this information is contained in IB reports since 2001. But the Centre has been sleeping over it.

The half-Italian Rahul Gandhi needs to correctly learn Indian political history. His silly remark that had “a Gandhi been in office in 1992”, the erstwhile Babri Masjid would never have been demolished, is a telling comment on his lack of proper education.
Mr.Rahul Gandhi does not know that the lock of the disused Babri Masjid was ordered to be opened by the Faizabad Sessions Judge in 1986 only because of the complicity and concurrence of the Congress Government in U.P. At that time, his father Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister. The subsequent laying of the foundation stone in 1989 for the temple by the VHP was also formally witnessed by the then Union Home Minister in his father’s Government.
In fact, if a genuine Gandhi (not an imposter) or a Sardar Patel had been in charge in 1947, India would not have left unresolved the Kashmir issue, or yielded the UN Security permanent seat to China in 1950, or sold-out on Aksai Chin, or set-back the country’s development by adopting the Soviet economic planning model.
The nation has already paid a heavy price for the “Gandhis”. India will disintegrate if the Maino-Nehru- Gandhis remain in charge much longer. Time is now to drive them out of office for securing India’s national integrity.

The Government of India should not misjudge the position of President Musharaff and pre-maturely act in any manner that encourages his anti-Indian opponents in Pakistan, who are out to sabotage his position.
It should not be forgotten that those who politically and violently oppose President Musharaff today most virulently are the most rabid Islamic fundamentalists and those other politicians who have in the past when in power had encouraged the Taliban to take over in Afghanistan. They had also capitulated to the Mullahs on social reform.
No doubt President Musharaff has not delivered on his past promises to India to curb terrorists infiltrating into India, but that does not mean his successor would be any better. “The devil we know is better than the devil we do not know”, as the old adage appropriately cautions us.

I demand of the Prime Minister that he ask his Minister for Shipping to put on hold further dredging in Palk Straits which threatens the hoary Rama Setu.
The PM should also institute a Committee to determine whether there are alternative routes that can be carved out in the Palk Strait while preserving the Rama Setu as a World Heritage Site under the UNESCO guidelines.
According to my information, there are four alternatives which are much cheaper compared to the present Rs.2500 crore project.
The best alternative route is to carve out a canal on the Pamban-Dhanuskodi 15 KM land strip as was done (but on a much larger scale) in creating the Suez and Panama Canals. This will cost less thanRs.1500 crores.
Well informed sources tell me that corrupt motives and commission payment made the UPA government choose the most costly and anti-Hindu alternative of dredging through the Rama Setu, which satellite-laser dating has established to have been constructed in Treta Yuga, i.e., 1,750,000 years ago.
The UPA Government did not hesitate to alter the underground route of the Delhi Metro so as not to threaten the Qutub Minar in Delhi. Then why not for Rama Setu? Is it because the Hindu sentiments do not matter while minorities have to be appeased?

The killing of more than 14 innocent poor rural folk in Nandigram, West Bengal by the CPM Government’s random police firing is nothing but state-sponsored genocide, a horrible event that resembles Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.
It is not enough provocation for the police that the rural folk blocked their entry into Nadigram. Such blocking is part of the internationally recognized peaceful protest made famous as satyagraha by Gandhiji.
This gruesome incident should open the eyes of democratic forces that Communists everywhere are the same. They will kill the unarmed people to retain power and authority. Those who equivocate at this hour of cruel tragedy, as the Congress Party is doing, deserve the total censure of the people.
The grandson of Mahatma Gandhi is today the Governor of West Bengal. He must act to rectify this genocide by calling the Chief Minister to account. Other he will not be true to his legacy.

Statement of Dr. Subramanian Swamy, President of the Janata Party
made in Chennai
1. The Union Government must table in Parliament a White Paper on the Quattrochhi affairs, starting with his having been detained in 1993 by the CBI at the Delhi International Airport, and then permitted to leave the country on the orders of the Minister of State in charge of Personnel who ordered the CBI to let him board the flight.
I have it on good authority that, at Ms. Sonia Gandhi's behest, the then Minister Ms. Margaret Alva had ordered the CBI to let him go. The file notings, I learn, confirm this.
2. The White Paper must also explain the twin delay by the CBI, first, between 8.2.07 when Interpol, Buenos Aires, re-confirmed it's 7.2.07 message (why was it necessary to re-confirm?) that Quattrocchi had been taken into custody, and 13.2.07 when CBI wrote to MEA (why not phone?) for a copy of the Argentinian Extradition Act when in fact the Interpol on the same date had already sent the CBI a copy of the said Act. The Government must answer why it took six days for the CBI to "write" to MEA for this public document that was easily available even at Delhi 's Argentinian Embassy.. Second, the delay between 13.2.07 and 22.2.07 for the CBI to hold a meeting with the Legal and Treaty Division of MEA when the said meeting should have been held on 7.2.07 or latest by 13.2.07, especially when it was known that Quattrocchi was in police custody in the forest area of Iguazu in Argentina not in the Bofors case, but on a kinky misdemeanour case, and hence in a bailable case. The Argentinian police computers on an identity check had discovered subsequently the Interpol Red Corner Notice and informed the Interpol in Buenos Aires, who then promptly informed the CBI.
3. Despite knowing that Quattrocchi could be bailed out, why did the CBI delay for so long? Was it to enable Quattrocchi to escape again? He would have indeed escaped but for the media leak in India on 23.2.07.
4. The Parliament must therefore summon the Attorney General and CBI Director to the bar of the House, and ask them to depose in an open Parliament proceedings on this whole sordid matter.
5. Since the CBI's 1997 File Note calls for interrogation of Ms. Sonia Gandhi to complete the investigation of the Quattrocchi case, I demand the PM permit the CBI to do so immediately.
6. The 2007-08 Budget has become a nationally acknowledged flop. All that the Finance Minister has done is put together some proposals for various vested interests ignoring the basic problems facing the economy. The 30% duty for dog and cat pet food is to oblige Ms.Nadia Valdemaro, the sister of Ms.Sonia Gandhi, who after her divorce from her Spanish husband, has settled down in Italy to liaise with two British pet foods company for exports to India.
7. The Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) on IT companies will be a disaster and a betrayal of the software companies since two years ago these companies were encouraged to investment on an expectations of zero tax till 2010.
8. The raising of the cess for education to 3% is a fraud on the public since the last three years only 18 per cent on the 2% cess or Rs.3600 crores of the Rs.20,000 crores has been spent on education. The rest has been used in revenue expenditure.
9. I have written to the PM that he must urge the President to forward the 35 lakh signature petition of Hindu Munnani against demolition of Rama Setu, to the Supreme Court under Article 143 of the Constitution for an opinion whether the Sethu Samudram project should be re-designed to save the Rama Setu.

The 2007-08 Union Budget presented by the Finance Minister, Ms.Chidambaram is a pedestrian boring jumble of allocations and tax proposals lacking any direction or for tackling inflation.
What is urgently required today are a set of effective measures directed at raising substantially public investment in agriculture, incentives to move 100 million educated youth from rural areas to productive employment in the manufacturing and service sectors, and motivating private sector to enable this shift while bringing custom tariffs down to 10% ad valorem, i.e., ASEAN levels to enable cheap imports for industry. There is also a need to clean up the stock market of such ‘hotmoney’ instruments such as Participatory Notes (PNs) which are meant for laundering corrupt and black money, and creating artificial rise and fall in share values of obscure companies.
Except for platitudes therefore, the Finance Minister has proposed no measures in this direction, and hence this Budget at this juncture will be a disaster for the economy.

The focus of the public ire today is Ms.Sonia Gandhi who after pretending to sacrifice the PM’s chair, went about throwing her weight to show off that the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh is nothing more than a household pet doing her bidding.
Unless the Congress Party sends Ms.Sonia Gandhi and her family packing, there is no hope for the party in future elections.

The security forces have reported in the media today that the LTTE killer squads and their weapons-carrying boats, are “hibernating” in the back waters of the Tamil Nadu coastline. This confirms my charge that the UPA’s DMK-led Tamil Nadu Government has allowed a free run of the State to the LTTE much as it was in 1989-91 before the Chandrashekhar Government (in which I was a Minister) dismissed the State Government under Article 356 of the Constitution, and restored law and order.
This revelation of hibernation also confirms the statement of Defence Minister A.K.Antony that what has been discovered in Tamil Nadu regarding LTTE presence, is “just tip of the iceberg”.
The problem is the DMK is a camouflaged LTTE political front in Tamil Nadu, unlike the MDMK and PMK which are open supporters of the LTTE. All these parties are UPA partners. The CM, Mr. Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi who he had only yesterday had anointed as his “literary successor”, has been a formal member of the LTTE in Malaysia and Singapore for several years before she returned to India.
Hence, Tamil Nadu cannot be safeguarded, and India’s national integrity cannot be protected, unless the DMK government is dismissed by the Centre. The Karunanidhi government is a threat to the basic structure of the Indian Constitution, and hence eligible for the application of Article 356 of the Constitution.

STATEMENT OF DR.SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, PRESIDENT OF
JANATA PARTY MADE IN CHENNAI ON 21.02.2007
1. The UPA government has completely failed on the issue of terrorism. This is because in it’s soft selective and approach capitulationist approach. The UPA has no counter-terrorist deterrent strategy, and has emboldened the terrorist to strike at will without suffering any consequence. Instead it seems more concerned about dismissing Mulayam Singh’s UP Government rather than focusing on combating terrorism.
2. According to Home Ministry, today 30 of the 35 States and UTs in the country are ‘terrorist affected’. All terrorist organizations in India today are inter-connected and are co-ordinating their efforts with international terrorist links.
3. Hence I demand the immediate formulation of a counter-terrorist deterrent strategy. It should recognize that what is happening in India is part of Osama Bin Ladin’s directive that US-Israel-India are enemies of Islam. The strategy must acknowledge that India’s democratic polity cannot permit those political parties to function that maintain links with any terrorist organization such as LTTE, PWG, ULFA.
4. The nation needs today a solid unity to confront terrorism, a unity that transcends casteism, regionalism and linguistic chauvinism. In today’s context only a virile Hindu Unity (Virat Hindutva) can provide such an unity. Muslims and Christians can join this unity if they acknowledge proudly that their ancestors were Hindus, and not foreign butchers such Ghazni & Ghori marauding in India.
5. The Sonia Gandhi-led UPA Government has washed it’s hand off the maintenance of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in Sriperumbudur (see enclosed letter). In my visit last October to the Memorial I found the entire area in a state of disrepair because the employees are not getting their legal minimum wages paid. The pitiful wages are also irregularly paid.
The state of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial is one more confirmation that his widow Ms.Sonia Gandhi has betrayed his memory and is just as much as the Congress Party alliance with those parties that justify the LTTE killing of Rajiv Gandhi. This mysterious contempt for Rajiv Gandhi by his political and financial beneficiary that Ms.Sonia Gandhi is, should be probed by a future government.
6. I condemn the UPA government’s determination to demolish the Rama Sethu as anti-national, and on par with the Taliban’s destruction of Bamiyan (Afghanistan) blowing up of the world’s tallest rock carved statue of the Buddha, and the Mahumud Ghazni’s destruction of Somnath Temple. I demand the President of India intervene this matter.
7. Therefore I shall meet the Tamilnadu Governor today and demand that the Rama Setu be declared a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO and fully protected.

Dear Mr.President,
I write this letter to draw your urgent attention to the petition submitted by the Hindu Munnani regarding the Nala Setu, alternatively known as Rama Setu and re-named by the British imperialists as Adams Bridge connecting the main land of India with Sri Lanka.
This said petition was signed by 35 lakhs people of India who are greatly exercised that this wonderful magnificient heritage and the engineering marvel should be so crudely sought to be demolished by the Government in the name of Setu Samudaram project.
There are number of legal and constitutional issues whise arise in this act of vandalism by the Union Government. First is that Article 51A(f) which calls upon the Government “to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture” is being violated by the attempts to demolish the hoary Setu. There is also a question of fact which arises out of the satellite mapping by NASA of USA which confirms that this Setu is about 1,70,000 years old, i.e., belonging to the Treta Yuga. If this is further confirmed, then it is worthy of being a World Heritage Site for which I have written to the UNESCO.
In view of the public importance of this matter and the fact that a very large number of patriotic Hindustanis are deeply disturbed and exercised about the attempts to demolish the Setu, I urge you to forward the said petition of the Hindu Munnani to the Supreme Court under Article 143 of the Constitution and seek an opinion on these questions of law and fact. In the meanwhile you may advise the Prime Minister to keep the matter in abeyance and the operation of Setu Samudaram stayed.

The President of India should not set an unhealthy precedent by dismissing the UP Government headed by Mulayam Singh Government merely on the U.P.Governor’s report. It does not contain any actionable material facts, but merely the usual litany of complaints. The Governor is a known Nehru family-retainer, and hence his report must have been asked for by the UPA Chairperson Ms.Sonia Gandhi. Ms.Gandhi’s animosity to Mulayam Singh is well known and since he had refused to write a letter of supporting 1999 for her when she had tried to become Prime Minister.
As long as Mulayam Singh’s Government does not meddle with the basic structure of the Constitution or enjoys majority support in the Legislature or both, the President cannot concur with the demand for dismissal of the Government.
The only State Government which is violating the basic structure of the Constitution is that of the UPA partner, the TN Government led by DMK. The DMK by giving a free run to the LTTE in the State has threatened India’s integrity because that terrorist organization is assisting the PWG, ULFA and Naxalites to wage war with the Indian nation for secession.

1.The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh must sack Mr.P.Chidambaram from the Finance Ministership immediately from the economy overheating and going into a tail spin.
Mr.Chidambaram has proved to be the most incompetent Finance Minister in the history of modern India.
2.The present inflation is an indicator of his incompetence. Although the out-dated wholesale price index of his Ministry only reveals a 6.58 percent rise annually, the retail prices are galloping at an average annual rate of 17 percent. Price of wheat flour has risen 27%, of chana dal 41% urad dal 45%, onion 100%, sugar 22%, cooking oil 24%, and washing powder 50%.
3.This inflation is entirely due to the free run to speculators given by the Finance Minister in permitting forward trading and bank finance to hoarders.
Now the Finance Minister is hell-bent on forcing interest rates to rise which will throttle growth of GDP.
4.The solution to the inflation problem lies in checking speculators, forward traders, and halting the black money launderers using the Participatory notes (PN) instrument in the stock market.
5. But Mr.Chidambaram is in league with these racketeers. He is seen more in nights dressed in jeans than in the Finance Ministry.

The recent series of seizures in Tamil Nadu and on its sea shores, by the Coast Guards, of LTTE-smuggled weapons, suicide detonator belts, medicines etc., for that outfit’s terrorist activities, should open the eyes of all patriotic Indians of the threat to nation’s security from the LTTE which is embedded in Tamil Nadu under the patronage of the UPA-led DMK-ruled government.
The LTTE has clearly once again began converting the State into a terror-hinterland and a supply base of that terrorist organization. Once before the same situation had arisen in 1989-91, but fortunately for the nation, I became in 1990 the Law Minister in a decisive anti-terrorist government headed by Mr.Chandrashekhar. Hence the National Front-led DMK-ruled government was dismissed under Article 356 of the Constitution and President’s Rule imposed on January 31, 1991 and the State saved from the clutches of the LTTE.
I therefore once again demand President Rule in Tamil Nadu, since it is quite clear that the DMK, PMK and MDMK are aiding and abetting the LTTE to have a free run of the State.

I demand that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.Karunanidhi and his ManFriday Mr.Arcot Veerasamy apologise and withdraw their scurrilous and scandalous remarks against the judiciary. Otherwise, I shall move the Madras High Court to take suo-moto cognizance of a criminal contempt of Court.
The Chief Minister has already demonstrated that he is an illiterate in the subject of law when he declared that Parliament should adopt a new Constitution to replace the present constitution authored by Dr.Ambedkar. The TNCM’s ignorance of law is laughably evident because Article 368 of the present Constitution makes parliament a creature of the Constitution, and not the other way around. No Parliament in India can replace the present constitution. Only by an illegal coup d’etat such a dastardly replacement can take place.
By calling the Madras High Court as “Katta Panchayat” (Kangaroo Court), Mr.Karunanidhi and Veerasamy have disgraced themselves in the eyes of the public.
Therefore if Mr.Karunanidhi fails to apologize and withdraw his statement, the Centre must invoke Article 356 of the Constitution and dismiss the DMK Government.
Mr.Karunanidhi has also praised Mr.Veerasamy for “belling the cat”. The cat required a bell only to forewarn the rats to scamper and scatter. I hope therefore, the DMK leaders will now run since the constitutional cat is on the prowl.

I oppose the UPA government decision to pursue the Iran-India gas pipeline through Pakistan. It would make India's energy supply hostage to Pakistan and dependent on future governments in that country to be benign which is a wild risk. India will have to pay more than half a billion US dollars to Pakistan annually as fee for the pipeline to pass through their territory. When Pakistan cannot protect pipelines in it's own territory, how can it protect a Shia-Hindu pipeline?
It is better to get gas from Iran by laying an under the ocean pipeline, even if it takes more time. It will be secure. Hence Foreign Minister should go on a wild goose chase while in Iran this Feb 6th, by pursuing this through Pakistan pipeline.

PRESS RELEASE
The news item today in the media (Deccan Chronicle January 24, 2007) that the 107-tonne imported dredging driller made of pure steel, broke into two pieces and sank into the sea when an attempt was made to break up the Rama Setu (renamed during Mughal rule as Adam’s Bridge). This Setu was built, according to satellite data of NASA (www.nasa.gov/digital image collection), about 1,750,000 years ago (Treta Yuga according Hindu chronology) and is an engineering feat designed by Hanuman’s associate Nala, by chaining shoals of 30 km long.
The UPA should know that this Lakshanam (pointer) of a pure steel dredger breaking into two upon touching the Setu bodes ill for the disastrous Sethu Samudram project. The project requires thus to be re-formulated to avoid breaching the Setu.
There is already an application of mine pending before the World Heritage Convention of the UNESCO to declare the Rama Setu as a World Heritage Site. The Setu meets the six cultural criteria for inclusion, and hopefully will be put on the Agenda in it’s New Zealand Convention starting June 21st this year.
Also, the Ramanathapuram District Civil Court has issued Notice to the Union Government on a petition filed by a RSS worker as to why the demolition of Rama Setu not be stopped.
But the UPA government has moved in haste, like Ravana, and tried to serve a fait accompli by quick demolition of the Setu. Obviously, like Ravana, destiny is not in UPA’s favour.
I demand that the Prime Minister intervene, and stop this Taliban-like madness against our civilization and history. Otherwise, the UPA Council of Minister will go down in history as the worst traitors since Jai Chand.

The belated claim of Mr.Rahul Gandhi is ridiculous and contrived that he dropped out of Harvard undergraduate studies due to “security reasons” following Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination by the LTTE. Till the other day, he had inspired Indian media to write that he had a Harvard undergraduate degree. Now we know the truth that he had “graduated” from some Rock and Rollins College in Florida.
Harvard’s campus is one of the most protected in the US and certainly much more than Florida. I myself am under CRPF Z-security cover for the being on LTTE’s hit list, yet find no inconvenience when I go year after year to teach at Harvard during the summer, since the university police is there to co-ordinate with other US agencies for effective protection.
As for the M.Phil “degree” of Mr.Gandhi, I demand that Mr.Rahul Gandhi make public in which Department he got it from, and disclose the thesis that he wrote to qualify for the degree. The Newsweek magazine’s surrender on this score is no guarantee of Mr.Gandhi’s M.Phil degree. While in St.Stephen’s College, he had failed in the elementary Hindi examination, and yet he is an MP from UP. There can be no great shame for UP.

Dr.SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY TO VISIT CHINA
The Janata Party President Dr.Subramanian Swamy, who also teaches economics at Harvard University every summer semester, will go to China on a two day visit starting January 25th.
The International Studies Centre of Tsinghua and Fairbank Centre of Harvard are sponsoring an international conference on “India-China-US Triangle” to be convened by Dr.Swamy in Ernakulam, Kerala next year in January in the School of Communication and Management studies campus. Dr.Swamy’s visit is to finalize the list of Chinese participants in the proposed conference.
Dr.Swamy will confer with professors of the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing. China’s President Hu Jin Tao is an alumni of Tsinghua.

The Janata Party President Dr.Subramanian Swamy today addressed the Indian Vegetarian Congress on “Vegetarianism for an Energetic Life” at Rani Meyyammai Hall, Chennai, at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Congress.
Dr.Swamy told the Congress that vegetarianism alone does not guarantee non-violent nature. He cited the case of Hitler who though a vegetarian committed all kinds of violent horrors on human society for which six million innocent people lost their lives.
He said that for an energetic life, vegetarianism has to be integrated as a way of life. Eating vegetarian food has therefore to be accompanied with yoga, adequate sleep, balanced diet, and avoidance of bad habits like alcohol and drugs.
Dr.Swamy said vegetarianism is natural for humans because our capacity to grow and cook foods, as also our teeth and digestive system is structured that way.
Our ancient seers recognized this, and also recommended vegetarianism for mental equilibrium and meditation. They called it sattvic food.

I fully welcome the Supreme Court judgment holding that the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution cannot act as a firewall against judicial review of the courts. This in no detracts from the glory and power of Parliament nor does this mean any confrontation with the Courts. After the concept of basic structure of the Constitution was accepted by the nation following the Supreme Court judgment in the Keshavananda Bharati case, Parliament become a creation of the Constitution. Hence whatever legislation Parliament passes, has to be liable to judicial review by the High Court and Supreme Court.

STATEMENT OF DR.SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, PRESIDENT OF JANATA PARTY MADE ON JANUARY 11, 2007
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has betrayed the 2½ lakh farmers of Theni, Dindigul Madurai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts in the Mullaperiyar Dam issue by failing to implement the Supreme Court order that I had obtained after eight years of arguments on my Transfer Petition. The CM must implement the Supreme Court order immediately by raising the water level to 142 feet, and not later than by Pongal Day or face a JP-BJP agitation on behalf of the farmers. I have already discussed the details of this agitation with TN BJP President Mr.Ela Ganesan yesterday in Chennai.
All the arguments advanced by the Kerala Government are baseless. They were raised by the Kerala lawyers during the Supreme Court hearings, and rejected by the Supreme Court.
The water level of the dam was lowered from 152 feet to 136 feet in November 1979 on a bogus cry of the Kerala CM Mr.Karunakaran. MGR unnecessarily was pressured to lower the water level, for carrying out “repairs”. On April 29, 1980, the Central Water Commission Chairman Mr.Thomas (from Kerala) recommended that since necessary major repairs were carried out, and the water level could safely be raised immediately to 145 feet. After further minor repairs, the water level could be raised to 152 feet.
Kerala has now raised fear of the dam being “too old”, i.e., 110 years old. This is not a scientifically sound argument. In Trichy, the Kallanai Grand Anicut is 906 years old, and the world’s oldest. It is still functioning fully.
The 3.62 kms Dowleswaran Barrage across the Godavari is 154 years old, and has prevented floods and drought in three states. More than 3500 tmcft of water flows across it, against just 15 tmcft across the Mullaperiyar Dam at 152 feet water level.
The Pechuparai dam in Kanyakumari was built in 1904, i.e., 102 years ago, which has turned Nanjinad in a rice bowl and provided adequate drinking water.
Kerala claims that the British Imperialists had pressured Maharaja of Travancore into signing the lease agreement of 999 years for building a dam, and is unfair to Kerala.
This argument is bogus because in 1970 the elected governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu re-negotiated the lease agreement. At that time, no question of dam safety was raised, even though the water level of 152 feet had been in place for 85 years already.
Kerala government is also baselessly creating alarm about earthquakes. During the last 111 years, engineers have recorded 30 earthquakes of greater intensity that the one in Koyna. No damage has been done to the dam because of it’s limestone material. Of course no one anywhere in India is safe from catastrophic events of major 8+ Richter scale earthquakes or Tsunami. Progress cannot be halted because of such risk.
The real reasons for TN CM’s delay is to save Sun TV network in Kerala, the impotence of the Madurai CPM’s MP, and the greed of the DMK first family to sacrifice the people for the family. The CM had threatened to withdraw support for Maran’s Ministership and also Neyveli Lignite Co’s privatization. But he is silent about 2½ lakh farmers of southern districts.
Now that the Vatican Pope Benedict XVI has declared in his recent speech at St.Peters Square that Apostle St.Thomas never traveled to Chennai (full quotation of the Pope in the authoritative Syrian Christian Journal Satya Deepam), it means that the story that ‘fanatical Brahmins’ killed the Apostle in Chennai in 72 AD is false. Because of this, the Encyclopedia Brittanica has declared the circumstances of St.Thomas martyrdom in Chennai as an ‘unlikely scenario”. (see www.hamsa.org/brittannica.htm) and has revised the entry. Hence, will the Christians hand over the Santhome Church back to the Mylapore Hindus so that the Shiva temple originally there can be re-built? The temple had been demolished by East India Company British Christian soldiers in the 16th century. Or the Catholic Christians should prove the people as mistaken and falliable.

The last 2½ years of UPA governance at the Centre has been the worst period for the nation as far as terrorism and law & order is concerned.
Terrorism has not only intensified in Kashmir and Northeast but it has become serious now in 29 of the 35 States & UTs.
The reasons for this spurt in terrorist activity are two told: (a) The UPA has failed to formulate an effective counter-terrorist strategy. Short of platitudes of asking people not to be provoked, or issuing statements of resolve, the UPA has no clue on how to deter future terrorist attacks. (b) The UPA leadership regularly negotiates unconditionally with terrorist organizations such as the Hurriyat, PWG, ULFA, Nagas etc. Despite the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by the LTTE, the UPA Prime Minister has no compunction in meeting the nominees of the LTTE, the TNA, from Sri Lanka. This has completely eroded the credibility of the Government. Now no one takes India seriously when the PM talks of ‘zero tolerance’ towards terrorism.
Ms.Sonia Gandhi therefore has no moral authority to condemn the Mulayam government for failing in law & order. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.
I condemn the vulgar statement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.Karunanidhi on temple deities. The Chief Minister has revealed his fixated mind on nudity and sex, and thus has brought shame to the CM’s post.
On the question of EVR’s statue, I have two questions to ask Mr.Karunanidhi [a] Does he approve of installing a statue of EVR in front of Vellankani Church and Nagore Dargah?
[b] Since EVR is called ‘Punidar’ by his followers, why was the DMK created by dividing the DK?
