Press Release of Dr.Subramanian Swamy dt.16.12.03
1. Ms.Jayalalitha Government is becoming more and more anti-Tamil in its actions, which speak louder than the crocodile tears shed by the Chief Minister for Tamils in Malaysian jail.
The State Government has taken the following anti-Tamil actions recently:
1. Scrapping the Special quota for Sri Lanka Tamil refugee student by falsely claiming that the Madras High Court full Bench judgement on reservations had directed them to do so. Despite that the first Bench of the Chief Justice has rejected this contention on my PIL the Jayalalitha government has yet to restore the special quota.
2. Not acting on my suggestion to install a statue of former State Home Minister Kakkan in the TN legislative Assembly campus.
3. Resisting my PIL in Madras High Court (next hearing December 16th) to permit the subordinate police personnel to form a Police Association, even though AIADMK promised it in the Election Manifesto of 2001. Eleven States have now permitted the formation of such an association.
4. Refused to give concurrence to the Central Government’s decision to accept my proposal to name Madurai Airport as Muthuramalinga Thevar International Airport. This is not only anti-Tamil but anti-national as well.
5. Failing to keep the CM’s promise to acquire the place of demise of Muthuramalinga Thevar in Tirunagar, Madurai and make it a national monument.
6. Colluding with the Kerala Government to postpone hearing on my PIL in the Supreme Court on the Mulla Periyar Dam’s water level issue. I moved an application in the Supreme Court on December 12th and got posted an early hearing. I hope the Jayalalitha Government will not try to sabotage my efforts at the final arguments stage.
7. Scrapping the Prohibition policy, and converting the Government into a trader of alcoholic drinks to help the Sasikala benami liquor distributors, the Midas. This may make for second TANSI type case.
8. Failing to take interest in the issue of postal stamps in the name of Marudu Pandiar brothers my plea has now been endorsed by the Philatelic Committee of the Union Government, and is awaiting Arun Shourie’s signature.
9. Hurting Tamil self-respect by begging for water from Karnataka and Andhra, instead of seeking long term solutions. This failure is to benefit the water tanker lorry owners owing allegiance to Ms.Sasikala. Even the desalination project has been sullied by allegations of corruption.
10. Stating on affidavit filed in Supreme Court that Tamils are not
welcome in Karnataka since Bandit Veerappan is perceived as a “Tamil nationalist”.
2. Hence if Ms.Jayalalitha does not end this anti-Tamil attitude the Janata Party will launch an agitation for her resignation.
3. The Janata Party will hold a massive rally on December 23rd in Melur, to celebrate the birthday of Kakkan as the Anti-Corruption Day. Kakkan’s brother Advocate Vishwanathan will also address the rally.
4. The Janata Party congratulates the Madurai Collector for making Madurai the first district to give salaries through ATMs. Sholavandan has already is the first taluk in the country to provide land records online. Melur is already the first taluk to have internet kiosks in villages to help farmers, women, school children and the sick to benefit from computers. This was the election promise of the Janata Party in 1998, and it has been implemented now.
5. The Government should consider invading Pakistan if the Taliban/Al Qaeda assassinates President Musharaff. India cannot afford nuclear weapons going into the hands of terrorists. Israel and the US should cooperate with India on this possible endeavour.
